Common questions about our builds

We take time to help you plan the right foundation, sizing, and features for your outdoor carpentry project. Here are answers to frequent questions about our custom process and delivery.

Do I need a building permit for an 8x10 shed or a chicken coop?

Answer: In most Canadian municipalities, detached accessory structures under 108 to 160 square feet (depending on your local bylaws) do not require a building permit. However, you must still adhere to local property line "setback" rules. We always recommend checking with your local municipal office regarding specific bylaws before we begin construction.

"My Yard Isn't Level—Can I Still Get a Structure?"

Yes, absolutely. It is incredibly rare to find a backyard that is perfectly flat. Shifting soil, natural slopes, and property grading are completely normal, and our builds are specifically engineered to handle them.

"Can I Install my shed over grass"

While we can level a structure on blocks over standard grass, the absolute best thing a homeowner can do for a lifetime investment is to lay down a 3-to-4 inch crushed gravel or limestone pad (extending 1 foot wider than the shed on all sides).

Gravel creates a stable footprint, drains water cleanly away from your lumber, and prevents weeds from growing underneath your structure.
